i don't know how many of you know about what has been going on in the spiritual environment of san luis obispo over the past few years. i'll recap. upon moving here 12 years ago i and several other pastors (from other evangelical churches) started to meet for the purpose of fellowship and prayer. out of those meetings we have done large united gatherings for the purpose of prayer and worship etc. etc. over the years us pastors have also escaped our offices and buildings for retreats. all and all there has truly been an attitude of unity and love among us as pastors. i will probably write more on how we got to the place of love and unity as well as the personal difficultys along the way in a future post. the purpose of this post is to share with you something of significant impact which happened this morning in our time of meeting/prayer. years ago i remember hearing a recorded message from one of my favorite bible teachers (d. martyn lloyd-jones) in which he stated how important it is to not forsake the regular gathering of the believers together. "for if you do", he said "you may miss the occasions in which He shows up in power and glory"(i really shouldn't put those quotation marks there because i'm actually paraphrasing Him...but you get the idea). this morning was one of those moments in time in which God came in power and glory. we spent a significant amount of time having deeply insightful conversation about where do we as pastors (God ordained spiritual gate-keepers of the city) want to see God move in power throughout our city. we all recognized that our first call as the spiritual leaders of SLO is to be men, broken and prayerful before our God.
we finished our conversation by getting on our knees and lifting our voices in crys of passionate prayer before God. asking God to show himself strong, to foil the defense of the enemy, to break the chains of pornography that have many bound, to silence and save those who use the local radio waves to speak out against our glorious God. we wept for the lost in our community, and the complacent in our churches. we prayed until the power of God came and flooded our hearts with a peace and a strong confidence that His kingdom has arrived. all i can say is that something changed this morning and the epicenter was located at Agape Church (950 Laureate Lane), and we were humbled to be the first to feel its rumbling.
here is little story for ya. I was the first one to arrive (a miricle in itself) and the room was freezing. Mike (Sparrow) told me that the thermostat was a little tricky to figure out and the only way the turn the heat on and thus reset the climate was to over-ride the system. he override the system and yet it took some time to feel the actual change. well this morning God override the spiritual system over slo and the climate is about to change.
after we finished praying we all felt that God was calling us pastors into a season of united prayer. so, next thursday i will be leading these pastors up my mountain (this is the place i go daily to pray over the city) to stand as intercessors over this amazing city of SLO. The are the men who are normally a part of our times of prayer are:
